How do I make an appointment?

To speak to one of our therapists, phone Cedar Rapids Counseling at 319-362-0632.  Often you will reach our voicemail system.  Please don’t get discouraged, as all of our therapists check their voicemail frequently and will return your phone call promptly.  If you have identified a specific therapist, her extension will be listed in our voicemail directory.  If you are comfortable speaking to any Cedar Rapids Counseling therapist, please leave a message by pressing “1”.

What does therapy cost?

The cost for an initial assessment is $170 per session and usually requires one to three sessions. Each subsequent session is $110.  Each session lasts 50 minutes.  Longer appointments can be arranged for an additional fee.  If you have health insurance, your plan may pay for psychotherapy services.

How do I use my insurance?

A phone call to the number listed on your insurance card will allow you to check on your mental health benefits.  There may be restrictions on which therapist you can see and how many sessions insurance will pay for in a year.  Here are some important questions to ask your insurance customer service representative:

  1. Do I have mental health coverage?
  2. Will my insurance pay for psychotherapy services provided by the specific therapist I am interested in seeing?
  3. Am I required to “preauthorize” psychotherapy sessions before I meet with a therapist?  If yes, how many sessions are pre-authorized?  Is there an authorization number?
  4. What amount am I expected to pay for each session (usually either a percentage or a co-pay amount)?
  5. Are my mental health benefits subject to a deductible?  If so, how much is it?
  6. Is there a limit to the number of sessions insurance will cover each year?  If yes, how many?
  7. Is there an annual dollar amount limit on my mental health benefits?  If yes, how much?
  8. Is it necessary for a Licensed Independent Social Worker to be supervised by a Psychologist?

Cedar Rapids Counseling will assist by filing insurance claims for you.
