My approach will focus on helping you identify and build on your personal strengths in order to develop effective and creative solutions to your problems. I've been a therapist for over 23 years and have experience in addressing a variety of concerns. My primary goal will be to help you, not only solve the problems that bring you to therapy, but to identify other ways in which you might improve the overall quality of your life. There are many ways to achieve these goals and, regardless of what approach we use, I assure you I will provide you with a safe and respectful environment in which to do your work.
I’ve received training in a number of different therapy approaches and, after we meet, I will consult with you about which approach may be most helpful to you in meeting your goals. I have advanced training in an innovative treatment called EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), a technique often used in reducing the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. EMDR has also been successfully used to assist many types of anxiety disorders, performance difficulties, and with changing the negative thinking associated with depression and low self-esteem. I've also developed some expertise in assisting individuals who have intense emotions learn how to manage those emotions so they do not "get in the way" of living the life they desire. In addition, I was a play therapist for eight years and, while I do not currently work with children, I certainly understand the challenges of being a parent and the stress that families experience in their day-to-day lives. I celebrate all families and relationships and welcome people from the LGBTQ+ community into my practice.
